1970 was a great vintage in terms of quality and quantity thanks to favourable weather conditions in all regions of France.
To choose a bottle of 1970 wine, discover the notes by region :
The year 1970 in the vineyards of Bordeaux gave incredible red wines, especially in Pomerol and Saint-Emilion with notably the most beautiful vintage that the Château Trotanoy has produced. It was awarded a 96/100 rating by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate in June 2017 with an estimated keeping capacity until 2030. At Pauillac, the Château Mouton Rothschild 1970 was also a beautiful reference of the vintage as was Pape Clément 1970 in Pessac-Léognan. The white wines of 1970 in Bordeaux are less recognized but one can still find gems such as Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 1970 or the Château d'Yquem 1970 in Sauternes.
The red wines of Burgundy of the 1970 vintage are obviously rarer today especially as the year was not exceptional. However, we can mention the Beaune 1er Cru Les Boucherottes in red of Louis Jadot and the Chassagne Montrachet in white of Bernard Moreau. The 1970 Nuits Saint Georges and Vosne Romanée are also wines that can be tasted exceptionally well.
In the Rhône, 1970 was a good year for red wines and the vineyards produced quantity and quality. But it is in Châteauneuf-du-Pape that we find the most beautiful bottles: the Château Fortia 1970 or the Château de Beaucastel 1970. The 1970 Côte-Rôtie wines are more difficult to taste today as are the Condrieu wines, even if a Mouline of Guigal must still be magnificent.
