And the big winner in 1992 is: the wine from the Rhône. The wine is balanced in red and white with an average score of 16/20! Ideal climatic conditions and grapes harvested at perfect maturity largely contributed to produce a vintage of very good quality.
The 1992 Bordeaux vintage has got off to a good start. Flowering took place early and the summer was hot and dry. But the growing season was wet. In August, 300% more rain than usual. September was cool, if not cold. The weather conditions made it a complicated vintage. Only the greatest will have succeeded. Nevertheless, the whites were favoured and we had great success in Pessac-Léognan in 1992 with a superb Haut-Brion for example. A difficult year for Sauternes and Yquem actually decided not to market its vintage.
A better year for Burgundy, especially in white rather than red. Without hesitation, we recommend the Côte de Beaune, which produces very good white wines in 1992, rich, powerful and fine. A mediocre year for the Champagnes. The 1992 vintage remains relatively correct for the Loire.
