Advice on the 2011 vintage

The 2011 vintage has been heterogeneous for French winegrowers. For many, summer seemed to have arrived early in April. Spring was hot and dry, while June brought cool, cloudy and wet conditions. Clear skies and mild temperatures in September saved the lives of some winemakers, but others struggled with rot and inconsistent quality.

In Bordeaux, a vintage that is both stimulating and interesting. It remains heterogeneous, with both red and dry whites experiencing difficulties throughout the region, while the sweet wines of Sauternes and Barsac excelled.

A good vintage in the Rhône with great Hermitage wines, as well as great successes in the Côte-Rôtie vineyards.

In Alsace, it is a success with an Indian summer, a vintage of very good quality.

A difficult vintage for Burgundy: heat, drought, rain. Most of the estates started harvesting at the end of August or beginning of September. But there are no generalities in this vintage, there are no rules, it all depends on the management and techniques of the estates: we can find very great Meursault, Richebourg, Romanée Saint-Vivant, etc.
