Domaine Grand Veneur, Alain Jaume | Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Presentation of Domaine Grand Veneur, Alain Jaume

Domaine Grand Veneur : Located in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, the JAUME family has excelled in the winemaking profession from generation to generation since 1826. Alain Jaume's family currently runs 3 vineyards: Domaine Grand Veneur, with the great single vineyeard cuvées, it is the most prestigious of the estates of this family. Then, the Clos de Sixte and Château Mazane. Alain Jaume's family respects the environment on every aspect during the vinification process. The cultivation methods are meticulous to preserve the soil and the living, a great conviction of the family. Thus, the vineyards follow the protocol of organic farming. These terroirs enable them to produce wines of great intensity, with superb balance and excellent ageing potential. Christophe Jaume is the sixth generation of his family to make wine in this estate. Covering nearly 50 hectares, the estate owns plots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Côtes du Rhône and Lirac. Their vines are planted with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre for the reds and Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape white, and Viognier for the excellent Côtes du Rhône white. The family believes in maintaining harmony between the grape and the soil and so they cultivate organically. They were certified organic in 2012.

The wines of Alain Jaume, Grand Veneur

The red cuvée "Miocène" is grown on a raised plateau of large rounded pebbles ("galets") and sand, while the red cuvée "Les Origines" is grown on a plateau of galets, red clay and sand, right next to Beaucastel. The red cuvée "Vieilles Vignes" is made from the oldest vines in the area. The white cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape come from plots of land sloping to the north of the raised plateau. The cooler aspect favours the freshness of the wines. The estate also operates a wine merchant business that buys grapes and selected wines from wine-growing partners in Tavel, Gigondas, Rasteau, Cairanne, Vacqueyras (separate from the estate "Château Mazane"), Lirac (separate from the "Clos de Sixte" estate), Ventoux and Châteauneuf-du-Pape (separate from "Domaine Grand Veneur", property of the estate). These wines are labelled "Alain Jaume" and do not bear the estate name.
