Directly from the wine estate

This small village in the Côte de Nuits has hardly wanted to expand, so precious is its land. A former dependency of the Abbey of Cîteaux, Chambolle-Musigny is one of the greatest thanks to its two superb Grands Crus: Bonnes-Mares and Musigny, at the top of the Clos de Vougeot. It is also enriched by a prestigious Premier Cru: Les Amoureuses, one of the finest vintages of the village. 

TERROIR

Between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, facing the rising sun, the slope is close to the bedrock, with thin soil. Numerous cracks in the hard limestone allow the roots to find their way deep into the Jurassic subsoil. Boulders and gravel provide good drainage. 

THE VINEYARD

• 2 vines aged 50 and 70 years " Les Athets et Les Chardannes ". Working the soil, ridging, digging. Protection of the vines in High Environmental Value - No insecticides, no weedkillers. Manual leaf removal to avoid Botrytis. Pruned in cordon de Royat in order to control the yield and the distribution of the bunches
• Grape variety: Pinot Noir 
• Surface area of the vineyard: 0.15 ha
• Average age of the vines: 60 years

VINIFICATION

Limited yields -40 hl-. Manual harvest in pierced crates, sorting on the vine. Moderate use of SO2. 75% of the grapes are harvested whole. Native yeasts. Traditional vatting, with 1 punching down or pumping over every two days.

MATURING

Aged for 16 months in barrels, 15% of which are new, then 2 months in vats. No fining, nor filtration if possible. Bottled manually at the estate after 18 months of maturing. Alcohol content: 14% vol. 

TASTING

Its colour is a bright ruby, with brilliant and luminous reflections. Even with time,  it will keep its brilliance. On the nose, the bouquet brings out notes of red fruits and violets. With time, it will evolve towards spicy ripe fruit, prune, or towards truffle, undergrowth and animal.
