Tasting
- 93/100 James Suckling
- When to drink this wine? Best from 2023 to 2032.
- Tasted on April 25, 2023: "Lots of blackberry, cassis, roasted meat and violet aromas on the nose. Quite powerful with fine, firm tannins. The volume is impressive for a 12.5% alcohol content. The palate is creamy with lots of luscious cherries and bright acidity. Vibrant finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink it or keep it."
THE ESTATE TELLS YOU ABOUT IT
Baptized with the 2003 vintage, this cuvée did not have a name before. It was simply our "generic" cuvée. A blend of several lieux-dits, it is a way to discover the estate and the Syrah in Cornas. To reach its fullness, Les Chailles will require fewer years of cellaring than our other Cornas cuvées.
TERROIR
Syrah vines aged about 40 years. At the foot of the granitic slopes of Cornas, with soils more fertile than higher up, giving the vine vigor and slightly higher yields. The proximity of the Arlettes limestone massif to the north explains the presence of particular siliceous concretions from the Trias called chailles.
