Château Batailley 2005
5th grand cru pauillac classification
93/100 Parker
Tasting by Neal Martin: “Tasted at the Batailley vertical tasting at the château, the 2005 Batailley continues to be an excellent Pauillac that I suspect is being overshadowed by some of its more illustrious and, let's not forget, more expensive neighbors. Here, the bouquet is effervescent, with bright red berries and superb minerality. It's extremely well concentrated, with notes of rose petal emerging over time. The palate is quite full-bodied, with finer tannins than in previous years. I get the impression that there's still some oak left to absorb, so feel free to cellar this 2005 for another four or five years; but, even at this early stage, you can appreciate its precision on the graphite-infused finish. It was with the 2005 Batailley that the estate began its ascent, which continues to this day. Tasted in April 2016.”
