Château de Beaucastel, owned by Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, is a wine estate located in Courthézon. Its vineyard extends over 100 hectares out of the 130 that make up the property, three quarters of which are in the Châteauneuf-du-pape appellation. Its most prestigious vintages are the red Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel which blends the 13 varieties of the AOC using a large proportion of mourvèdre, the white cuvée Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel, made of only the Roussanne grape, which is extremely rare in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine terroir. It is estimated a production of 300000 bottles of red wine and 30000 bottles of white wine.
If one had to find the prototype of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard, it would be in Beaucastel: the vineyard is entirely covered with these large galets brought one day by the Rhône. The Perrin brothers took the side of quality. The harvest is manual, the grapes are sorted and the eight grape varieties vinified separately. After blending, the wine is aged for a year in oak foudres.
