What is Domaine Blain-Gagnard?

Jean-Marc Blain founded his estate when he married Claudine, the daughter of Jacques Gagnard. The Domaine Blain Gagnard is not distinguished by unusual practices: reasoned control, ploughing between the rows, crushing then pressing of the whites, settling of the must, fermentation in barrels, stirring of the lees, transfer, then resting in stainless steel vats and bottling of the whites just before the next vintage. The reds benefit from minimal extraction, so as to tame the often uncompromising tannins of Chassagne. Jean-Marc Blain's secret lies less in his originality than in his personality, which is apparent in every decision made in the vineyard or in the vat room, always in search of elegance rather than power. A careful choice of coopers (with a preference for Minier de Chagny) and forests goes hand in hand with a determination not to openly wood the wines.

 

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru Boudriotte

The white and chalky soil of Boudriotte differs so much from the rest of Morgeot that the Domaine Blain-Gagnard dedicates a cuvée to it, whose fruit, gourmet, elegant and seductive, does not make us forget the beautiful acidity which supports the wine and ensures it keeps well.

 

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru Caillerets

The estate's plot stretches all along the estate: at the top, the marl gives thickness to the wine, while at the bottom, the white soil gives it elegance and finesse.
