- When to drink this wine : Wine at maturity, can be drunk now.
- Tasting notes : "This wine is really jammy on the nose, with notes of toasted new oak. Full-bodied and generous, with lots of fruit and a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. I love this style. It's huge and delicious today, but you need to give it three or four years."
More about Brane Cantenac:
"The 75-hectare vineyard on the left bank of Brane Cantenac is essentially unchanged since it achieved second-growth status in the 1855 Médoc classification. The entire vineyard can be divided into 120 separate plots. It is planted with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Carménère. Carménère was used for the first time in the 2011 vintage. Petit Verdot was planted in 2008. 2017 is the first vintage in which Petit Verdot has been added to the blend. At least, this is the case for the 45 hectares used to produce Grand Vin de Brane Cantenac. These 45 hectares are planted near and around the château. These vines are located just across the Cantenac plateau and constitute the best terroir that Brane Cantenac possesses. At its highest point, the vineyard is 22 meters above sea level. This parcel is the heart and soul of their wine. Not only for the elevation, but also for the depth of the gravel, which can reach 12 meters.
Today, over 20% of Brane Cantenac is farmed organically. Over time, the number of hectares farmed organically is expected to increase. Four of these hectares are also farmed using biodynamic techniques."
