Haut-Médoc - 5th Grand Cru Classé
History of the Château :
The history of Château Cantemerle dates back to the 12th century, when the estate was a medieval fortress belonging to the Villeneuve-Durfort family. Over the centuries, the estate changed hands several times, passing from French nobility to middle-class families.
Château Cantemerle's reputation as a producer of quality wines developed in the 19th century thanks to the astute management of the Dubos family, who made major improvements to the vineyard and winemaking facilities. The estate also benefited from the reputation of the Médoc terroir, which is renowned for producing fine, elegant red wines, particularly from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
MORE ABOUT THE WINE :
- Today, Château Cantemerle covers some 87 hectares of vines, mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Château Cantemerle wines are renowned for their elegance, balance and ability to age well. They reflect the classic style of Médoc wines, with black fruit aromas, fine tannins and a beautiful structure.
- In addition to its commitment to producing high-quality wines, Château Cantemerle has also invested in sustainable, environmentally-friendly viticultural practices. It is certified Terra Vitis, which means it meets strict standards for preserving natural resources and reducing the use of chemicals.
