Nicasia Vineyard Malbec 2018 - Catena Zapata
Great Vintage : 98/100 Parker
Cellaring potential: 2021 - 2028 (or even longer)
Tasting note by Luis Gutiérrez on March 31, 2021: "The 2018 Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec, from a vineyard planted in Altamira in 1996 from an old massal selection, shows a restrained ripeness, reflecting the less warm vintage (after 2017). The grapes were picked very early but with good ripeness due to low yields in a very dry year. It was fermented in open top barrels with 100% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in 500 liter oak barrels. It is a balanced and elegant Malbec with some restraint and a very fine thread on the palate, with really fine tannins. It follows in the footsteps of the phenomenal 2017, fine and elegant, 12,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020. "
DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE
The Malbec "Nicasia" has a deep red colour with purple shades. The nose offers flavours of ripe plums and red berries characteristic of the Nicasia vineyard. Ageing in oak adds complex and elegant notes of liquor, tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, a soft and seductive entry leads to a complex and full-bodied wine with soft, round tannins. The finish is long and persistent. This wine is ideal with game, such as deer and wild boar.
