Nicolas 2018 - Catena Zapata
Great Vintage : 96/100 Parker & 96 JS
Cellaring potential : 2021 - 2028 (or more)
Tasting note by Luis Gutiérrez on March 31, 2021: "The 2018 Nicolás Catena Zapata was made with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gualtallary (Adrianna Vineyard, with the Cabernet Sauvignon interspersed with some Cabernet Franc) and 35% Malbec from Altamira (Nicasia Vineyard). They no longer use Agrelo grapes, and this wine is also much richer in malbec than other recent vintages. So it has a very different profile, a change that began in 2017, with more restrained ripeness and freshness, and the wine is intense, retaining some of the Cabernet character (tobacco, blackberries) and the floral notes of Malbec. It is balanced and harmonious, with very fine tannins, a long finish and perfect ripeness. It is a revival of the pre-phylloxera Bordeaux style, from a massal selection of non-grafted vines... 62,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2019. "
