Tasted by William Kelley on March 7, 2022: "Tasted with a dosage of 8 grams per liter, Bollinger's 2014 Brut La Grande Année Rosé floats in the glass with aromas of tangerine oil, red berries, warm cookies and English walnuts. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, this is a powerful, vinous Champagne with a deep core of racy fruit and acids, complemented by a delicate pinpoint mousse and concluding with a delicate, invigorating phenolic grip on the finish."
"In the 2014 vintage, Bollinger again produced a Grande Année and a Grande Année Rosé. The result of a cooler, rather rainy season punctuated by a sunny June, Bollinger opted in 2014 for a late but quick harvest, picking all of its fruit in just 10 days; and the house's blends for the Grande Année favored the Verzy and Verzenay crus, as well as an unusually high proportion of Chardonnay (at 39%). The result is two very elegant, precise and generous champagnes, with all the mid-palate intensity one expects from a Bollinger, but defined more by purity and precision than by power. Charming and expressive from the start, they are also designed to age gracefully. Bollinger's Denis Brunner describes the 2014 vintage as one of pure "classicism" for the house, after the more "baroque" 2012s, and that's a very concise summary of the distinctions readers will find in the glass, which I am unable to improve upon. But I will add that the quality of these 2014s is indicative of the seriousness of the agronomy that distinguishes Bollinger's vineyards as being, along with Roederer's, the best cared for of all the great houses in the region. Both wines presented here come highly recommended."
