Ermitage Le Pavillon 2005 - Chapoutier
Chapoutier Estate
100/100 Parker: legendary vintage
Tasting by Jeb Dunnuck: “My favorite of Chapoutier's 2005s, the 2005 Ermitage Le Pavillon is a heavenly wine from one of the world's finest sites for Syrah, the steep, granite-dominated hillside of Les Bessards. This exceptionally fine Hermitage offers classic notes of smoked meat, charcoal, liquid rock, ember, chocolate and blackcurrant, as well as a thick, unctuous and massively concentrated style on the palate. Changing in the glass, with exotic aromas, incredible purity and well-built, polished tannins, Syrah doesn't get much better than this. Given this wine's youth, I'm sure it will celebrate its 50th birthday in top form, but it still offers plenty of pleasure today thanks to its texture, purity and balance.”
