The AOC Chassagne-Montrachet is a communal appellation of the Côte de Beaune. It includes 55 Premiers Crus, 3 Grands Crus and covers nearly 350 hectares of vines. The white wines of Chassagne are now very well known, but the terroir, which is often suited to red wines, poses a real dilemma for the winemakers.
In the mid-1970s, 70% of the production was red Chassagne Montrachet. Today the trend has reversed and 70% of the production is white Chassagne Montrachet. Although the village of Chassagne was only authorised to add Montrachet to its name in 1879, it suffers from the notoriety of its famous neighbour, Puligny-Montrachet, with which it shares two grands crus: Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. As for the Criots-Batards Montrachet, it is only found in the commune of Chassagne Montrachet. Taste an AOC Chassagne Montrachet wine from the best vintages on the site!
