Order wine : Châteauneuf du Pape 2012 Val de Dieu - Château de Vaudieu
From the estate
95/100 Parker
Peak: 2015 - 2027
Tasted in 2024 by Jeb Dunnuck: ‘The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Val de Dieu is 78% Grenache, 13% Syrah and 9% Mourvèdre. It is completely destemmed and aged for 18 months in a new half-muid, from which it absorbs all traces. The nose is fabulously sweet and pure, with aromas of black raspberry, black cherry liqueur, crushed flowers, white pepper and hints of liquorice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with solid mid-palate depth and ultra-fine tannins. I think it will age beautifully, but given its finesse and fluidity, it's a superb wine now.’
-
Assembly: GREENACHE 65% - SYRAH 25% - MOURVEDRE 10%.
-
Production : About 5000 bottles 75 CL & 200 Magnums - Degree : 15%.
-
Vinification: The Val de Dieu is a parcel of old vines to the north and east of the estate, harvested at high maturity. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand. They are 100% destemmed and crushed, then conveyed into concrete vats regulated at 25°C during alcoholic fermentation. Maceration for 30 days with daily pumping over, delestage or pigeage.
-
Ageing : The Grenache is matured for 18 months in demi-muids (600l), the Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in barrels.
-
Tasting : A dark colour with purple tints. A complex and voluminous nose of red berries from the woods, Szechuan pepper, sweet spices, cocoa, cedar wood and seductive smoke. Extremely long on the palate, with remarkable precision. Tannins are present, but perfectly integrated and well-balanced. Potential: 20 years and more.
-
Sommelier's advice : To be served at 16°C in large glasses, with a gardianne de Taureau, or a blood pigeon.
