Order wine : Châteauneuf du Pape White 2015 - Château de Vaudieu
93/100 Parker
Tasted in 2016 by Jeb Dunnuck: ‘Château de Vaudieu's 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc is unquestionably one of the finest traditional white wines. Made from a 60/40 blend of roussanne and grenache, vinified and aged partly in barrels, this wine has superb notes of juicy peach, white flowers and citrus blossom, as well as medium to full-bodied richness, solid mid-palate depth and a hint of honeysuckle on the finish. This beautifully pure and balanced white wine can be drunk at any time over the next decade or more.’
When to drink it : Drink now through 2030
Garde : To be enjoyed now and for 10 years.
Presentation : This classic wine represents our main cuvée, characteristic of the estate's style.
Grape varieties : Grenache blanc 52%, Roussanne 21%, Clairette 27%.
Terroir : This cuvée is a blend of our best plots of Grenache blanc, Roussanne and Clairette on a soil of rolled pebbles and grey flinty limestone. Harvest: The grapes were harvested by hand between 28th August and 13th September 2018, depending on the ripeness of each variety.
Vinification: The grapes are picked by hand, early in the morning to keep freshness, sorted and put in boxes to limit crushing. The bunches are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The musts are selected and then sent to the stainless steel vat room. After cold settling, the Clairettes and part of the Grenache are put into barrels to carry out the alcoholic fermentation.
Ageing: 8 months in barrels for part of the Clairette and Grenache (57% of the total volume in barrels).
