TASTING
Drink 2023 to 2040.
By William Kelley in 2019: "The 2017 Fleurie is gorgeous, bursting in the glass with aromas of cherries, raspberries, dark chocolate and rose petals. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a fleshy core of ripe fruit, luscious acids and some youthfully chewy, structuring tannins that will melt away with a bit of bottle age. This wine is less subject to the action of new oak than the Chateau's Moulin-à-Vent lieux-dits, and that's not a bad thing."
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Grape variety : Gamay
- Characteristics : A blend of three terroirs in the south of Fleurie - Bel Air, Grille-Midi and Cercillon - their Fleurie lies on granite of varying depth and alteration. This high altitude sector, above 300 meters, is particularly exposed to the wind.
- Vinification : Hand-picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in concrete tanks and barrels in our 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of Nivernais, Limousin and Allier.
- Tasting / Food pairing : The wines produced are rich, delicate and smooth. Intense floral and red fruit aromas combined with a precise acidity give these wines a very greedy character.
- Conservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to begin to deliver itself. It has a potential life of several decades.
