Order wine : Morgon Côte du Py 2021 - Château des Jacques
Beautiful Beaujolais estate
93/100 James Suckling
- Tasting in 2023: ‘What a beautiful nose of red fruit, summer flowers, spices and blood orange! Concentrated, elegant and precise on the palate, quite full-bodied, it has great vitality and very good ageing potential. Medium-dry tannins and vanilla on the long finish. ‘
- When to drink this wine ? : From 2026 to 2046.
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Characteristics : With the Côte de Brouilly, this climate is the symbol of the diorite terroirs, a bluish rock resulting from an underwater volcanism and older than the one that led to the formation of pink granite.
- Vinification : Hand picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in one, two and new oak barrels in our old 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of the Nivernais, the Limousin and the Allier.
- Tasting / Pairings : The Côte du Py takes full advantage of the richer blue rock than the neighboring granite: its aromatic richness (white pepper, blackberry,...) and its density are obvious. Its great complexity enhances many delicate dishes.
- Conservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to start to deliver itself. Its potential life is several decades.
