Moulin-à-Vent 2017 Clos des Thorins - Château des Jacques
Beautiful Beaujolais estate
93/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2021 - 2040
By William Kelley in 2019: "The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Clos des Thorins unfolds in the glass with a sumptuous bouquet of dark fruits, baked chocolate, spice and candied violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent palate that distinguishes it as one of the most immediately accessible bottlings from the Chateau des Jacques lieux-dits this year. While it deserves to age in bottle, it won't demand it as voraciously as the more structured vintages in the lineup."
PRESENTATION OF THE CUVÉE
- Characteristics : A few steps away from the Moulin à Vent, this gently sloping south-facing hillside offers the Gamay a deeper and more altered granite than our climates that surround the historic monument.
- Vinification : Hand picked in small boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The fermentation is punctuated by punching down or pumping over, depending on the nature of the vintage.
- Aging and bottling: The wines are aged for 10 months in one, two and new oak barrels in our old 17th century cellar. The wood comes from the forests of the Nivernais, the Limousin and the Allier.
- Tasting / Pairings : Characterized by a fleshy fruit texture, this wine is full-bodied and displays a remarkable smoothness that frames the slightly muscular tannins. It is a perfect accompaniment to cuisine of character: game, charcuterie, strong cheese.
- Conservation : Two to three years are necessary for this wine to begin to deliver itself. Its potential life is several decades.
