Château Gigognan Bois des Moines 2016
Côtes du Rhône Vieilles vignes
DEGRE : 15%.
SIZE : 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah
YIELD : 33hl/ha
PRODUCTION: 95hl
VINIFICATION : Hand picked, crushed and destemmed grapes. Fermentation at controlled temperature and long vatting period of 4 weeks with numerous pumping over and delestage. Drainage and pressing. Malolactic fermentation, blending and maturing 8 months in vats then light filtration and bottling at the end of June 2017.
TASTING : The "Côtes-du-Rhône" old vines are grown on the superb pebbled soil above the cellar in a green setting facing south. Resulting from limited yields, the average age of the vines is 34 years. The blend favours Grenache and Syrah. This wine of an intense purple red reveals a subtle and greedy nose of ripe black fruits (blueberries, blackcurrant) associated with light woody and spicy notes. On the palate, the tannins are supple and silky and accompany a beautiful aromatic length. This racy and complex wine can be kept for 8 to 10 years and we recommend tasting it around 18C°.
TERROIR : Old terraces on sandy and marly limestone. Facing south, on a gently sloping hillside.
