Château La Tour Carnet - Haut Médoc

The château La Tour Carnet, is a wine estate located in Saint-Laurent-Médoc in Gironde. Located in AOC Haut-Médoc, it is classified quatrième grand cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

What are the specificities of Château La Tour Carnet?

The Château La Tour Carnet, owned by Bernard Magrez since 1999, is one of the oldest winegrowers in Bordeaux. The land eventually fell under French rule. After centuries of war, the ruined property passed into the hands of a succession of owners, before being obtained by Charles de Leutken. The estate remained in the Leutken family for generations. When the property was first taken over by Bernard Magrez, the estate had only 44 hectares of vines. By 2018, the vineyard had grown to 190 hectares. Today it is one of the largest vineyards in Bordeaux and one of the best producers in the Haut Medoc.

The 190-hectare vineyard on the left bank offers a wine made from different grape varieties for tasting:

Not far from some of the best vineyards of the Saint-Julien appellation, the Château La Tour Carnet is well placed in the Haut-Médoc appellation benefiting from a terroir of gravel, clay and limestone, with gentle, undulating slopes.

After vinification in a combination of large wooden vats and stainless steel vats, between 85% and 90% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels at an average of 60%. The remaining 10 to 15% is aged in large clayey amphorae. The ageing period is on average about 18 months before bottling.

The prestigious French estate also produces other vintages such as Château La Tour Carnet - Blanc, Les Douves de La Tour Carnet (second wine), Servitude Volontaire, Sire du Château La Tour, Les Douves de La Tour Carnet - Rosé.
