Château Tertre Daugay was a 16-hectare vineyard on the Rive Droite of Bordeaux located in Saint-Emilion. The estate was purchased and is now known as the Château Quintrus.
What are the specificities of Château Tertre Daugay?
In the early 1900s, the Château Tertre Daugay was a much larger estate. In 1909, the vineyard was divided into two parts which gave birth to Tertre Daugay and Daugay. The Daugay part was finally bought in 1920 by the de Bouard family, owner of the Château Angélus. In 1978, Tertre Daugay is sold to Comte Leo de Malet-Roquefort, owner of the Château La Gaffelière.
The owners of Château Haut Brion bought the estate in May 2011 from Comte Léo de Malet-Roquefort. The estate then ceased to exist in 2012 as the new owners changed the name of the property to Château Quintus. 2010 is the last vintage of the Château Tertre Daugay.
The estate produces a blended wine from 2 different grape varieties:
The terroir is clay-limestone and the average age of the vines is 25 years. However, the estate also owns old vines. Indeed, some of the oldest vines on the property are almost 100 years old.
In order to produce the wine of Château Tertre Daugay, the vinification is done in traditional cement vats. The wine is aged on average in 35% new French oak barrels before bottling.
