By Lisa Perrotti-Brown in 2018: "Pale gold in color, the 1998 d'Yquem has a flamboyant nose of allspice, candied ginger, honey and crème brûlée with a heart of candied lemons, tangerine zest and musk fragrance, and a hint of potpourri. On the palate, it is beautifully balanced, with an unfailing freshness that brings out the decadent sweetness (134.4 grams per liter of residual sugar), and culminates with layers of fantastically persistent exotic spices".
