100/100 Parker
When to drink this wine A mature wine.
Tasted by Robert M. Parker in 1998: ‘The Yquem 1811, with its deep gold colour, incredibly intense and sweet nose, creaminess, thickness, fabulous flavour extraction, precision and finish of a minute or more, is the kind of wine on which Yquem's reputation rests. It was a liquefied crème brûlée - an amazing wine.’
Terroir
The vineyard of Château Yquem has 113 hectares of vines. The terroir is at the highest altitude of Sauternes, which gives it a unique microclimate. The microclimate is critical, as it allows the easterly winds to move through the vineyard, helping to eliminate unwanted excess moisture, especially later in the growing season when noble rot sets in.
