Order wine : Château de Beaucastel Roussanne Vieilles Vignes 2005
Chateauneuf du pape - Perrin family
96/100 Parker
Cellaring: 2007 - 2011
By Robert M. Parker, Jr. in 2007: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes Blanc de Beaucastel is an exceptional wine in this vintage, 100% Roussanne from very old vines, 50% of which were kept in tank and 50% fermented in barrel, with blending done before bottling. The wine has fabulous intensity, a big sweet nose of exotic fruit, fig, marmalade and honeysuckle, huge body, decent acidity and a smooth mouthfeel. It's a wonderful wine to drink for 3-4 years or take the risk that it will bounce back in 10-12 years, which it most often does."
- Description: Considered one of the greatest white wines of France, only 6,000 bottles of this wine are produced. Made from 100% very old Roussanne grapes, picked when slightly over-ripe, this exceptional wine will be drunk before 2-3 years or in 10 years, with great gastronomy (chicken with truffles...).
- Location : The Château de Beaucastel has a vineyard of 7 hectares planted with white grape varieties.
- Terroir :Miocene marine molasses covered by an alpine diluvium (rolled pebbles).
- Elaboration : Manual harvest, sorting of the harvest, picking in boxes, pneumatic pressing, settling, fermentation (30% in pieces, 70% in vats).
- Maturing for 8 months (30% in pieces, 70% in vats). Bottling after 8 months.
- Grape varieties: Roussanne: 100%.
