Châteauneuf du Pape 2004 - Château de Vaudieu
- This classic wine represents the main cuvée characteristic of the estate's style.
- 92/100 Parker
- Cellaring: Drink now. Ripe wine.
- Review by Jeb Dunnuck in 2014 : "Also superb, the 2004 Châteauneuf du Pape (80% Grenache, 16% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre) is rich and voluptuously textured, with notions of black raspberry, kirsch, licorice, spice and underbrush emerging from the glass. Perfumed and clean, with a seamless texture."
- The vintage: Covering 70 hectares, mainly in the centre of the appellation, Château Vaudieu produced a magnificent red and white in 2004. It is interesting to note that this estate brought in Philippe Cambie as a consultant in 2003.
- Vinification: Château de Vaudieu is made from a very precise parcel orientation, which allows us to pick the white grapes at their optimum maturity, to the south west of the estate. The grapes are picked by hand, early in the morning to keep their freshness, and sorted and placed in boxes to limit crushing. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The musts are selected and then sent to the thermo-regulated stainless steel vat room. After cold settling, the Roussannes and a part of the Grenaches are put into barrels for alcoholic fermentation.
- Aging: Aged for 8 months in 228l barrels for the Roussannes and part of the Grenaches. (35% of the total volume in barrels).
- Advices of the sommelier : To be served at 11-12°C, as an aperitif, then continue with a carpaccio of scallops in citrus sauce, a grilled sea bass, or a nice truffle brouillade.
