Châteauneuf du Pape 2020 - Domaine de Marcoux
Great Rhône wine directly from the property
- (91 - 93)/100 Parker
- Cellaring potential: 2023 - 2030
- Tasting note by Joe Czerwinski on May 5, 2022: "Tasted in vat, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape seems to be another very successful vintage. It has the usual complex flowers of this vintage combined with red raspberries and cherries, but it is not as concentrated or rich as the 2019 version. It's silky to the touch, with an easy sense of charm and elegance."
The Marcoux estate owns 13 plots of land located in different areas of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and therefore on different types of soil.
VINIFICATION & MATURATION : The grapes are harvested by hand according to their maturity, which varies from one grape variety or district to another. A first sorting of the grapes is made in the vineyard. The winegrowers quickly bring the harvest back to the cellar, in 50 kg boxes. Once in the cellar, the grapes are sorted, destemmed, crushed and cooled. No yeast is added, we work with indigenous yeasts. During the alcoholic fermentation, we control the temperature and pump over daily. The maceration lasts from 4 to 5 weeks. The maturing is done mainly in concrete tanks and in a few tuns or barrels of 350 liters. It lasts about 18 months.
GROWING METHOD : Vineyard cultivated in organic agriculture (ECOCERT control)
GRAPE VARIETIES : The percentage of grape varieties varies from year to year, but in general it is 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault.
TERROIR : Quartzite pebbles and clays, red sandstone and colluvium, cretaceous limestone of the Barremian period
