Châteauneuf du Pape "L'avenue" 2016 - Château de Vaudieu
Vintage 2016: 96/100 Wine Spectator & 96/100 Parker
Maturity: 2018 - 2030
-
96/100 Parker by Joe Czerwinski on 31 August 2018: "The Châteauneuf du Pape l'Avenue 2016 is entirely made of Grenache from the locality of Vaudieu, aged in demi-muids. Loaded with black cherries, cedar and vanilla, it is a full-bodied, mellow sexpot of wine. Velvety, intense, long and layered, this wine has everything to please. If only there were more than 350 cases of this elixir."
-
Grape variety: 100% Grenache noir.
-
Terroir : This cuvée comes from one of our best Grenache noir parcels on a soil of red Comtat sandstone, made up mainly of sand, but also clay and limestone.
-
Harvest: After waiting for optimal ripeness, the grapes were hand-picked on September 29th 2016.
-
Vinification: The grapes are destemmed and crushed then conveyed into a truncated-cone-shaped concrete vat. The temperature is maintained at around 25°C during alcoholic fermentation. Maceration lasts about 30 days during which pumping over and racking over are carried out daily according to the tastings of our oenologist Philippe CAMBIE.
-
Ageing: Grenache is aged for 18 months in demi-muids of 3 wines or more.
-
Tasting: this cuvée comes from a plot of old grenaches on sandstone at the top of one of the hills of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The nose reveals notes of clementine zest and franboise coulis, the palate is on the palate.
