Tasted by Joe Czerwinski on May 5, 2022: "A blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah and other permitted varieties, the Clos des Papes' 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape looked exceptional that day, offering up scents of raspberry and kirsch alongside dried flowers and Asian spices. Light, silky and long, this is a special wine, complex and balanced."
The producer's note (Paul-Vincent Avril): "We had a good summer, not too hot. However, the estate's plots were badly affected by frost in the spring. His team started harvesting on 20 September, paused the following weekend due to rain, and he expected them to finish on 2 October. "The phenolic ripeness is there, the sugars are there," said Avril. "No, it won't be like 2019, but I think we'll get to around 14.5-15 degrees [alcohol]. I think, I don't like to say until the vintage is over."
Tasting advice
Serving temperature: 15°-16°. You can decant them but it is not necessary to do it 2 hours before because it is always interesting to appreciate the evolution in the glass.
