Domaine de La Janasse Cuvée Chaupin 2010
Châteauneuf-du-Pape - Aimé Sabon
100% Grenache. Vines planted in 1912 for the older ones.
The Châteauneuf du Pape Chaupin 2010 competes with the Chaupin 2007. Made from 100% Grenache (3/4 destemmed), it exhibits a dense black/purple color as well as incredible notes of raspberries, black cherries, licorice, truffles, camphor, forest floor, and garrigue. This wine is surprisingly concentrated, incredibly noble, precise, and expansive on the palate with a saturating intensity of glycerin and extract.
- 100% Grenache. Vineyards planted in 1912 for the older ones.
- Location: This wine is coming from the cold and late soil named Chapouin (sand), La Crau and La Janasse (sand).
- Acreage: 7 ha.
- Grapes: 100% Grenache. The oldest vines were planted in 1912.
- Vineyard: The vines are grown without pesticides or insecticides and manure is natural.
- Yield: 28 hl/ha.
- Vinification: 80% stems removal. Maceration during 26 days and handmade pressing once a day.
- Ageing process: 2/3 in big barrels (“foudres”) and 1/3 in 600 litres barrels (“demi-muids”).
- Production: 12 to 16.000 bottles per year.
- Tasting: The quintessential grenache in its most beautiful expression on his cradle Châteauneuf. Between notes of black fruit and violets, this wine evoluates with very soft tannins already melted. A beautiful bottle, archetype of the appellation, to marry a deer stew today and within the next twenty-five years.
