Piedlong 2021 Châteauneuf du pape
Vignoble Brunier
94/100 Wine Spectator
An elegant, lighter style - partly a reflection of a leaner vintage - packed with impressive energy and complexity. Rose petal, white pepper and incense notes infuse the red berry flavours, all fuelled by bright acidity. Fine-grained tannins show elegance and appeal throughout the refined, seductive finish, with graphite etchings. Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2040.

- Tasted by Joe Czerwinski in 2022: "The 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Piedlong is 90% Grenache from the locality of Pied Long (sometimes written as a single word), plus 10% Mourvèdre from Pignan, so sandy soils - in contrast to the preponderance of Crau pebbles in Vieux Télégraphe. With its 50% whole clusters, it's a bit tabby and herbal, but it soars and is gorgeous on the nose, with scents of roses, menthol, cherries and raspberries. Powerful, yet airy and silky in texture, with a long, lingering finish, it seems to be a very special vintage."
- Piedlong is a cru signed by the Brunier family at the head of the Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. It is one of the superstars of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, acclaimed vintage after vintage by the critics. It comes from the terroirs of Piedlong and Pignan.
- Châteauneuf du Pape Piedlong is composed of 90% Grenache (from the Piedlong area) and 10% Mourvèdre. It offers tantalizing elements of cherry and raspberry, rose petal and black tea. Silky, lacy, and delicately textured for such a full-bodied wine, it is immediately charming and seductive.
