Château Climens is the first estate in Barsac, Bordeaux and produces one of the greatest sweet wines of Bordeaux. The Climens wine estate extends over 30 hectares. We find the château in Barsac, Gironde. The Château Climens is ranked premier grand cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.
It dates back to the 16th century and was bought by Lucien Lurton in 1971. It has been owned and managed by Berenice Lurton since 1992. Climens is located in the south of the Barsac appellation, just outside the small village of La Pinesse. - the vineyard ( 100% Semillon) is located on the highest point of Barsac (20m above sea level) on a topsoil of gravel / sand and a subsoil of limestone / clay. Yields at Climens are strictly limited and the wine is fermented in barrels and then aged in small oak barrels (one third new) for 22 months.
If Château d'Yquem is the embodiment of power and concentration, Climens is the embodiment of delicacy, finesse and complexity. The wines of the best vintages can last up to 50 years.
