Clos-de-tart is a French wine produced in Côte-d'Or, in Morey Saint-Denis. It is a grand cru of the Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy.
The Clos de Tart has only had three owners since 1141: the nuns, then the Marey family (now Marey-Monge), who bought the Clos in 1791 and kept it until 1932, before selling it to the Mommessin family. The latter later sold their family Beaujolais business to Jean-Clause Boisset, but kept the Clos. The arrival in 1996 of Sylvain Pitiot, co-author of the New Atlas of the Great Burgundy Vineyards, as steward, gave a boost to the estate.
The Clos de Tart is planted in a north-south orientation, following the contour lines instead of going downhill. A pedological study was carried out in collaboration with Claude Bourguignon, the renowned soil specialist; the vineyard was divided into six horizontal strips, according to the type of soil and slope - crinoidal limestone, Premeaux limestone, white marl, etc. Since 1999, these six sections have been vinified separately, in stainless steel vats.
