Cotes du Roussilon Village - Hervé Bizeul
CUVÉE STYLE:
Clos des Fées is renowned for producing high-quality wines, and "La Petite Siberie" is no exception. This wine takes its name from the parcel of vines located at a high altitude, where temperatures can be very cold, reminiscent of Siberian climates. This wine has good cellaring potential, meaning it can age for several years in the cellar to further develop its complexity and finesse.
TASTING :
- Visually, the wine has a deep red, almost purple color, reflecting its youth and concentration.
- On the nose, intense aromas of ripe black fruits such as black cherry, blackberry and plum. Spicy notes of black pepper and licorice add further aromatic complexity.
- On the palate, "La Petite Sibérie" offers a powerful structure with present but well-integrated tannins. The texture is velvety, offering a pleasant mouthfeel. Black fruit flavors are confirmed, accompanied by hints of blackcurrant and dark chocolate. The finish is long and persistent, leaving an impression of freshness and purity.
ABOUT THE DOMAINE :
Single parcel (2hectare 32ares 32centiares, half in production) of old Grenache noir gobelet vines on the south-facing slope of an east-west facing hillock. On a clay-limestone bedrock, a blackish-red schist and mica-schist flow with exceptional iron content. Extreme climatic conditions. An icy north-westerly wind blows through the vineyard more than 200 days a year. Late pruning. Intensive green harvesting: disbudding, internodes, load regulation, leaf removal. Striving for perfect phenolic ripeness while retaining maximum freshness and fruitiness. Hand-picked, stored and transported in refrigerated trucks. Maceration for 20 days, with extraction by gentle daily punching of the cap. Run-off into new barrels. Aged on lees, sulfur-free until malolactic fermentation is complete. Regular topping up with a Mouvèdre/Syrah blend (5-7% depending on vintage). Bottled without filtration. An endearing, impressive wine, extremely changeable according to place and occasion, evolving in the glass for several hours, with breathtaking length and tight, memorably velvety tannins. Maturity 10 years, ageing potential 30 years.
