Un Faune avec son Fifre 2013 - Clos des fées
Catalan Coasts
Hervé Bizeul
Mostly Cabernet Franc, from a high quality massal selection. Planted at 6,800 vines per hectare, in goblet pruning, on individual stakes. North-facing terroir, at the western foot of a limestone cliff. Plantation orientation so that each plant protects its neighbour from direct sunlight. Merlot in a place called "le Clos des Fées", goblet pruning, multi-clonal planting in crowds on stakes. Harvest at the end of the phenolic maturity plateau. Vinification "mixed grapes". Temperature-controlled vinification, with punching of the cap and air pumping over. Maturing in barrels, partly new, then in vats, until early bottling, usually in May/June. Objective finesse, length and salinity for a new expression of the grape variety on a great clay-limestone terroir. Dark garnet wine, nose of ripe red fruits, delicate touches of baked red peppers. Tannic, silky, long and distinguished on the palate, the term "classic" comes immediately to mind. The label changes every year, the fauna evolving gently with the wine
