Clos Saint-Jean is a family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and was one of the first, before the First World War, to sell its wine in bottles. Under the impetus of two brothers, Pascal and Vincent Maurel, and with the advice of the oenologist Philippe Cambie, the estate has transformed its production in recent years.
It notably offers two very fine vintages, La Combe des Fous (from La Crau, on which 22 hectares are located) and Deus ex-Machina, where the mourvèdre matured in new barrels is an important complement (40%) to the grenache. With a very expressive, gourmet and fruity style, sometimes a little demonstrative, the estate has become one of the spearheads of modernism. These are wines that will age well, but that can also be enjoyed early, to take full advantage of their generosity and aromatic exuberance.
