Château Cos Labory - Saint Estèphe

Château Cos Labory, is an 18-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe in the Gironde region. It is an AOC of the Médoc ranked cinquième grand cru in the 1855 classification.

What are the specificities of Château Cos Labory?

Like the other châteaux of the Saint Estephe appellation, Château Cos Labory gets the first part of its name from the famous Cos hill.

Bordeaux wine was produced at Cos Labory in the late 1700s. At that time, the estate was known as Cos Gaston, which took the second part of the first owner's surname.

Their three children drew lots for the estate. Hyacinthe then became the owner and the second part of the name comes from his daughter's married name, Marie-Sany Labory.

The Château Cos Labory has been bought by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, owner of the Château Cos d'Estournel. Today and since 1922, the Weber family owns the property.

In 1971, the family expanded in Bordeaux by buying another estate in Saint Estèphe, Château Andron Blanquet.

The 18-hectare Bordeaux vineyard of Cos Labory is composed of:

The terroir of Cos Labory is a clayey-limestone and gravelly soil with clay patches typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. A large part of their vineyard for Château Cos Labory is located near the château, next to the Château Cos d'Estournel. In fact, they have plots in the middle of the Cos d'Estournel vineyard.

The grapes undergo a fermentation of 18 to 25 days. The vinification is carried out in large 150 hectolitre stainless steel vats. The wine of Château Cos Labory is actually aged in a combination of 40% new French and 40% new American oak barrels.
