La Mouline 2011 - Guigal
Cote-rotie - Guigal
98/100 Parker
Cellaring: Drink now or cellar until 2041.
Tasted by Jeb Dunnuck in 2015 : "Starting from the single vineyard and bottled in February (after more than four years in new oak), the 2011 Cote Rotie la Mouline is as wild, sexy and seamless as they come. Full-bodied, exhilaratingly concentrated and unctuous, it offers the classic Mouline notes of charcuterie, violets, black raspberries, espresso and hints of vanilla bean. Philippe Guigal said the worst thing about 2011 was that it came after 2010. If the two previous vintages are getting all the attention, this 2011 will offer almost as much pleasure, right from the start. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring and will be sensational until 2041."
Grape varieties: 89% Syrah, 11% Viognier.
Vinification: In temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Traditional pumping over. Fermentation : Alcoholic/maceration for 4 weeks.
Maturation: Unique 40 months in new barrels.
Geology of the soil: Vines on terraces in the shape of a Roman amphitheatre. The terroir is composed of gneiss giving light-coloured siliceous soils mixed with calcareous loess.
