Didier Dagueneau was a passionate and visionary winemaker, considered to be one of the pioneers of the terroir wine movement in the Loire. Sadly, Didier Dagueneau passed away in 2008, but his family continues to produce high-quality wines, carrying on his legacy and distinctive style.
THE ESTATE TELLS YOU ABOUT IT
- The style of Didier Dagueneau's Silex wine is often described as elegant, complex and intense. It is characterised by great aromatic purity and a pronounced minerality, which is a reflection of the terroir on which the vines are grown. The name 'Silex' refers to the flint-rich soils found in the Pouilly-Fumé region, where Domaine Dagueneau's vines are located.
- The grape varieties used to produce the Silex wine are Sauvignon Blanc, mainly, and in some cases a small amount of Sauvignon Gris. Didier Dagueneau was renowned for his mastery of the vinification of this emblematic grape variety of the Loire. He paid particular attention to grape selection, vinification in oak barrels and ageing on the lees, with the aim of creating complex, expressive wines.
- When it comes to tasting, Silex wine offers a varied palette of aromas. On the nose, there are aromas of tropical fruit, citrus, white flowers, stone fruit and sometimes even a hint of smoke. On the palate, it has a fine structure, with lively acidity and a creamy texture. The minerality characteristic of Pouilly-Fumé wines is evident in the flinty or flinty notes, which add complexity and depth to the wine. The finish is often long and persistent.
