Ronceray 2018 in Magnum - Domaine Belargus
Appellation Anjou Contrôlée
• 94/100 Parker
• Cellaring : 2021 - 2050
• Reviewed by Stephan Reinhardt on July 8, 2021 : "The 2018 Anjou Ronceray assembles all the parcels of the estate on the Quarts-de-Chaume hillside. Its name refers to the abbey of the same name, which has owned the Chaume vineyards since the 11th century, reports Ivan Massonat, who highlights the complex geology of the terroir, which combines schist and pudding sandstone. The bouquet of the 2018 golden yellow is noble, perfectly ripe and concentrated in its elegant stone fruit aromas that intertwine with precise and refreshing slate and lemon notes. Filigree, fine and perfectly round and intense on the palate, this is a superb Chenin with intense fruit, lush fruit concentration, plenty of extract, fine tannins but also finesse and balance. Grapefruit bitters on the finish. For me, this is a picture-book Anjou from Rochefort-sur-Loire, characterised by richness, finesse and elegance. Irresistible. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted in June 2021."
• Presentation: A terroir from which world-renowned sweet wines are made, the Chaume 1er Cru and Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru appellations also have the capacity to produce great dry whites. The Ronceray cuvée refers to the Abbey of the same name, owner of the Tènement de Chaume since the 11th century. The lords of Haute Guerche, tenants of the tènement de Chaume, paid the nuns with "the best quarters of the harvest"... The name "Quarts-de-Chaume" was born.
• Ronceray is a complex wine, resulting from the blending of our parcels on the Quarts-de-Chaume hilltop. A complex geological soil, the combination of schist and sandstone poudingues gives this wine a sharp minerality and a floral and fruity richness. A fine bitterness, signature of this terroir, brings complexity and length in mouth.
• Domaine Belargus offers a selection of superb dry white wines each year. It is in the best vintages that Belargus produces great sweet wines by letting the magic of botrytis offer superb vintages.
