The Domaine Duclaux, property of David and Benjamin Duclaux, is a family wine estate created in 1928. This terroir was previously managed by their father, Edmond Duclaux. The Duclaux brothers then inherited the estate and now cultivate their terroir manually. A very beautiful terroir that extends over approximately 5.8 hectares of vines. They can be found on the sloping hillsides of Tupin-et-Semons, and the soils are typical of the southern part of the Côte-Rôtie AOC: derived from a gneiss bedrock.
The Domaine Duclaux cuvée La Germine from a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier made its debut in 2005. The grapes from the southern part of the appellation are 90% destemmed. The grapes are vinified in concrete vats and the wine is aged in 20% new French oak barrels and in 500 litre demi-muids for up to 20 months. This is the Cote Rotie entry level for Domaine Duclaux.
Domaine Duclaux cuvée "Maison Rouge" which is 100% old Syrah from a single plot of vines planted on the Côte Blonde. The vines are old as they are, on average, close to 50 years old or more. The grapes are 90% destemmed. The fruit is vinified in open concrete vats and the wine is then aged in a combination of 20% to 40% new French oak barrels and 500 litre demi-muids until 20 months before bottling. Only 325 cases of wine are produced in an average vintage. The first vintage was 2005.
Domaine Duclaux cuvée "La Chana" is made from Syrah mixed with 5-7% Viognier from young vines planted in different plots and terroirs.
To know: At one time, the Domaine Duclaux produced a traditional or regular Cote Rotie, but this wine is no longer in production The last time the wine was produced was from the 2005 vintage. Since 2014, they also produce great white wines: Duclaux Condrieu "Les Caillets".
