Presentation of the Domaine

Today, Domaine Durieu owns 37 hectares of vines in Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyard is made up of old vines, the oldest being Grenache which was planted in 1914. Their best terroir is characterised by very rocky soils which are perfectly suited to Grenache. 36 hectares are dedicated to the production of red wine and one hectare is used to grow grapes for white wine.

What are the most beautiful vintages of Domaine Durieu?

Domaine Durieu produces 2 red wines from Chateauneuf du Pape and 1 white wine from Chateauneuf du Pape.

- Domaine Durieu Chateauneuf du Pape - The grapes are not destemmed. The wine is often produced from a blend of 80% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre and 8% Syrah. But this can vary from one vintage to another, as in some years they may also include small amounts of Cinsault and Counoise. The wine is matured for about 12 months in concrete vats before being bottled. About 2,000 cases are produced each year.

- Domaine Durieu Cuvee Reserve Lucile Avril made its debut in 1999. The estate's best wine is named after the owner's mother. The grapes used for this cuvée come from their oldest vines. On average, the wine is generally made from a blend of nearly 90% Grenache from old vines, 6% Mourvèdre from old vines and 4% Syrah. However, this varies slightly from year to year. To produce the wine, the grapes are not destemmed. The Grenache is matured in traditional concrete vats for 16 to 18 months. The Mourvèdre and Syrah are aged for the same period in new French oak barrels. Wine production is not very important as the average production is nearly 800 cases per vintage.

- Domaine Durieu Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc - The wine is made from 80% Roussanne, with the rest of the blend coming from Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Only 250 cases are produced each year.
