Cellaring potential: 2023 - 2035
Tasted by Joe Czerwinski on May 5, 2022 ! "Sourced from century-old vines in the sandy locations of Charbonnières (east), Mourre de Gaud and Pignan, the 2019 Châteauneuf du Pape Grenaches de Pierre is less effusive on the nose than the other vintages at this address, but still boasts intense notes of black cherries and licorice. Aged only in concrete, it is velvety and succulent, though it shows a touch of alcoholic heat on the lingering finish. "
Domaine Giraud Les Grenache de Pierre - Produced from 100% old Grenache vines, the vines are mostly over 100 years old. The vines are placed in 2 vineyards, La Crau, with its clay and sand soils, and in the place called Pignan, where there is more sand.
100% of the fruit is always destemmed. The wine is aged in vats and demi-muids for 12 months. The production is quite small, about 250 cases per year.
