(95-97)/100 Parker
Tasted by Joe Czerwinski in 2024: ‘Incredibly fragrant and sexy, the 2022 Châteauneuf du Pape Les Gallimardes exudes scents of rose and garrigue that add layers of complexity to the ripe cherries and raspberries. Full-bodied and concentrated, its texture is somewhere between creamy and silky. The finish is long, ripe and lush, but with a wonderful sense of elegance.’

What the estate has to say:
- The blend consists of century-old Grenache (90%) and Syrah (10%).
- It can be enjoyed in its young years, between 3 and 4 years, and has an ageing potential of 20 to 25 years.
- The estate's origins lie in ‘Les Galimardes’, an area in the south of the appellation that has always belonged to the family. Here, he grows century-old Grenache, Syrah and several white grape varieties. This authentic Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir is made up of large pebbles rolled onto its surface, giving off a gentle warmth in the evenings that favours the concentration of the grapes. This cuvée reflects its modern, vibrant and intense style, promising richness and power. The Galimardes red is distinguished by refined elegance blended with voluptuous power, while the Galimardes white offers the racy originality typical of great wines.
- As for the harvest and vinification, the date of harvest is determined by tasting the grapes, then two passes are made to ensure optimum ripeness. An initial qualitative selection is made on the vine, followed by a second in the cellar to ensure the quality of the grapes. Depending on the vintage, 100% of the grapes are destemmed. Extraction methods are gentle, and fermentation lasts between three weeks and a month, with cooling for the first few days. Thereafter, the juices are temperature-controlled at around 28°C.
- The Grenache is aged in concrete vats for 18 months. The Syrahs are matured in old Bordeaux barrels to encourage micro-oxygenation and add structure. To preserve their aromatic intensity, the wines are neither filtered nor fined.
