Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, owned by Bruno Borie, is a 75-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, in the Gironde. The château is classified as the second great growth of St Julien in the 1855 classification.
Tasting
Let's base ourselves on a beautiful vintage like the 2015: Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Medium to deep garnet in colour, Ducru-Beaucaillou is fragrant with chocolate-covered cherries, fresh blackcurrants, crushed blueberries and liquorice with hints of cigar box, roses and violets as well as black pepper and tapenade. Rich and sensual with tons of seductive layers and firm, wonderfully velvety tannins. It has a very long finish.

Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the beautiful, large Günz gravels that are 6 to 8 metres thick. These pebbles play a role in the production of such a high quality wine, as they give back the heat accumulated during the day in the evening.
Owned by the Borie family, the vineyard is established on a deep gravelly soil and offers a wine made from 2 grape varieties:
An uncompromising wine, requiring a decade to deign to open up, although a certain softening is apparent with recent vintages. The regularity and consistency of quality make this a virtual first growth. The market has already estimated this by adjusting the prices.
The estate, which enjoys an unrestricted view of the Gironde estuary, uses sustainable viticulture in order to respect its vines. After manual harvesting, the vineyard practices a parcel-by-parcel vinification in order to obtain the most precise wine possible.
