Looking for a bottle of Château Ducru Beaucaillou 1953?
Saint-Julien - 2nd Grand Cru Classé
99/100 Parker
- When to drink this wine Can be drunk now until 2043.
- Tasted by Lisa Perrotti-Brown in 2020: "Medium-brick with a touch of brown, the nose of the 1953 Ducru-Beaucaillou immediately turns your head with a myriad of blackcurrant pastilles, candied plums, raspberry tart and sultana cake notes, followed by hints of sandalwood, rosehip tea, camphor and cinnamon toast, as well as suggestions of candied violets, bergamot, dried cherries and peppery salami. Medium-bodied, the palate exudes balance and grace, with tons of fragrant layers emerging on the palate and fantastic freshness, supported by gorgeous silky tannins, for a long, fragrant finish. What a beauty, and so surprisingly cerebral! If I could type a wolf whistle (and if I were inclined to engage in such behaviour), I would."
Here are a few tips for serving and tasting this wine:
- Serving temperature: Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a powerful, complex red wine. We recommend serving it at a temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the aromas and flavours to express themselves fully.
- Aeration A good aeration before tasting. We recommend decanting for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften.
