Looking for a bottle of Château Ducru Beaucaillou 1959?
Saint-Julien - 2nd Grand Cru Classé
100/100 Parker
When to drink it : Can be drunk now until 2059.
Tasted by Lisa Perrotti-Brown in 2020: "The 1959 Ducru-Beaucaillou has a medium to deep brick colour with a hint of brown. From the first whiff, an explosion of exotic aromas bursts forth with fantastically intense notes of candied Morello cherries, Black Forest cake, gingerbread, black choolat and Christmas cake, followed by scents of potpourri, aniseed, wood smoke and incense, as well as the most seductive suggestions of rose oil and orange peel. The medium to full-bodied palate packs a powerful punch of rich layers of candied red and black fruits, with a veritable firework display of floral notes and exotic spices, and finishes, long minutes later, with lingering savoury suggestions. Exhilarating, electrifying, hedonic. That's what it's all about."
Here are a few tips for serving and tasting this wine:
- Serving temperature: Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a powerful, complex red wine. We recommend serving it at a temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the aromas and flavours to express themselves fully.
- Aeration A good aeration before tasting. We recommend decanting for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften.
