Saint-Julien - 2nd Grand Cru Classé
98/100 Parker
When to drink this wine Can be drunk now through 2046.
Tasted by Lisa Perrotti-Brown in 2020: "Pale to medium-brown, the 1961 Ducru-Beaucaillou bursts from the glass with notes of kirsch, raspberry jam and dried blackberry, as well as scents of sandalwood, menthol, anise and dried roses, with a hint of black truffle. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is loaded with layers of dried red and black berries and tons of spice and floral sparkle, with a wonderfully plush texture and a fantastically long, multi-layered finish. A great bottle like this meets all the style and quality expectations of a 1961, and more."
Here are a few tips for serving and tasting this wine:
- Serving temperature: Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a powerful, complex red wine. We recommend serving it at a temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. This will allow the aromas and flavours to express themselves fully.
- Aeration A good aeration before tasting. We recommend decanting for at least an hour before serving. This will allow the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften.
